Default truck smokes at start up.

I just noticed today that white smoke was coming out my tail pipe when i started my truck up from a cold start from sitting all night. The smoke goes away after the truck warms up for about 5 min or so.why would the smoke go away after it warms up?I guess its burning oil since the truck is 12 years old and has 101k on it.should i be worried about this or no?

That is just water vapor that collected in your exhaust being expelled as it gets heated by the exhaust gasses. This is normal when the evenings are cool and/or the humidity is high.

Burning oil is a blue smoke. Stinks bad too.

Coolant that gets burned will make white smoke but the exhaust gasses will have a sickly sweet smell to it. Check your coolant level to make sure you don't have a leak.

Coolant can leak into the cylinder if your head gasket doesn't seal, or you have a cracked head/ block.

Just moisture from sitting. It is completely normal. If it was a coolant leak it would be thick, sweet, white some that doesn't dissipate. You have nothing to worry about.

Mine burns a bit of oil at startup, and sometimes under load. The smoke appears white, but is definitely oil burning. I haven't checked it out, but I am hoping it's just valve seals. Probably just has a gazillion miles on it though...

Ya, not a thing to be concerned with. at 100k the truck should be just broke in, unless you gouge the heck outta it. Worst case, could be the dreaded "plenum leak problem". But that is a whole 'nother thread.

It is condensation in the exhaust. Has to do with relative humidity and outside air temp. Nothing to be worried about.
