Default U Joints?

Hey Dodge Forum,
Question. I have 1998 dodge ram1500 4x4 v8 5.9 L. I was wondering if the U-joint behind the trans is different than the u-joint in front of the differential? How do i remove and install the u-joint behind the trans. It looks kind of tricky unlike the one in front of the differential.

Thanx

On the rear drive shaft both u-joints are the same. Just did mine a few months back.

Does a 2nd gen 2wd. have a "midship" mount on a short bed (two piece shaft with bearing in center mounted to frame crossmember)?

No, it is one-piece and alum. I was happy to see an alum. DS as they are lighter and tend to damped vibration. A nice addition over older trucks.

scoupe89: Thanks for info. Saves me having to get my fat *** under there to look. Actually I was afraid to look at my Dodge. I had a Short Bed Chevy with a driveshaft with a midship bearing. A real PIA. It made a squealing noise (off and on, couldn't track it down) before the center bearing seized and pulled the rubber surround free of the mount and left me stranded. I probably have to change front n rear U joints, on the Dodge. Without center bearing it's a whole lot easier.
