If you decide to get a takeout engine try to find a yard close to home. You have tons of options you just need to decide how you want to go about it and run with it from there.
How big are the differences between these and ones at a local junkyard?

About $600 more by the looks at it.

My local pick-a-part sells complete engines with 30 day guarantees for $250. YGWYPF however.

The only way I'd pay a grand for a used motor was if it came from LKQ with their really good warranty.
