Default PCM Exchange

Folks:
I have traced a "no -start/ no bus" condition to a bad connection on the socket on the PCM. I'm not 100% sure if the break is in the socket or the PCM. I took the cover off the PCM and it's totally embedded in a rubber like substance.

My question is - what do these PCM Exchange vendors do to the PCM beyond reflashing the PCM and clean up the outside? Seems a large chuck of cash for
this.

I'd hate to spend $300 on a refurbished PCM and then find out the break is in the socket.

thanks

Gerry

I had the same problem, no-bus. Wouldn't start, lost all gauges. Replaced the PCM from Automotive Exchange. Took them twice to get all bugs out. Without any problems on exchanges. Very happy in the end. Good luck..

I replaced my pcm thru automotive exchange as well (i think) because of the no bus problem. It was a refurbished and has been going strong for 4 years.

have you checked up under your main fuse box in the engine compartment? they like to get corroded and cause problems.. i would pop it off and check it out if you havent allready - only takes a second!

I'm still struggling with this. ACE is skeptical that their refurb computer is the problem, but I've sent it off, and they're taking another look at it. I only have my nobus/stall issue when it's hot-- on cold (Florida cold, not real cold) days or very short trips, no problems.

Done so far:
  • replace crank sensor
  • replace cam sensor
  • replace battery (needed it anyway)
  • swapped ASD relay with horn relay (known good)
  • traced and verified all engine grounds
  • thoroughly clean PCM and harness connectors with electrical cleaner
I'm convinced this is a heat related issue, but assuming it's not the computer I'm not sure where to go next. Any advice?

Thanks,
Matt

ACE as in Auto Computer Exchange?? If so you can probably just go ahead and expect their computers to be bad... There as been NUMEROUS threads here about them and they all seem to be the same thing.. Computers are no good... Try looking for a new place for one.

Yeah, I know.... I unfortunately read reviews after I'd already pulled the trigger with them. They're responsive with warranty replacement units, but I guess they could afford to be if they're just shipping the same bad units around. I've pretty much decided that I'm going to suck it up and get a replacement from Napa once I give up on ACE. This is my last shot....

All of that said, there is a chance that the computer really is good. If so, any idea what else it could be? I don't want to cough up for a new computer from Napa and find out it was the wiring harness all along (although that's a long shot since I think it's heat related).
