Default best place for?

I mounted my amp for my stereo in my truck under the middle seat and was wondering where would be a good spot to mount the ground wire? I cut out a small peice of carpet and sanded down a spot to bare metal and mounted it there with a self taping screw. But my stereo keeps going in and out and the only think i can think of thats doing it is the ground wire.

Any idea's or Help?

I had mine grounded on one of the bolts to the floor on the drivers seat. Did that on both rams with no issues

What size wire are you using? I would ground mine somwhere on the frame but then again i always ran dual batteries and 5k watts. I miss my car audio days.

I think it's 4 gauge if I remember correctly.

^^^Agreed... I bolted mine to the passenger side though since that's the side my amp rack is on. This should be fine for you as I have 1600 watts rms running through mine and it still hasn't fried. I'd like to run the amps full potential of 4000w rms but our damn alternators are junk when it come to high wattage sound systems and will only allow about 1600w.

Wherever you do end up grounding your amp just make sure that you have bare metal contact with the terminal. Since I mounted mine where the passenger seat bolts to the floor I used a wire wheel to get down to bare metal for a better contact.

Make certain all connections for power are solid with no breaks in the insulation. I will give you a little tip for getting the best heavy gauge wire you can get - go to any farm & fleet type of store. In the Iowa area, I have Theisens. At these type of stores, I go to the welding supply area & buy welder ground wire off a roll by the foot. Heavier gauge, made in the USA, double insulated, very flexible & tough. I would use that stuff above anything in the audio supply shops - the quality just cant be touched. One other thing that could be happening is a break in the positive cable's insulation where it is near or going over steel. An intermittent break in the insulation can cause that issue sometimes before it would blow a fuse. I hope you used a fuse on the positive cable also! Would hate to see your high amp rig go up in flames over something so simple.

Any chance we can tighten up the thread titles? This is the TECH page after all. And how is it going to help anyone doing a search, with a title like "best place for" ?
