Update: 96 dodge ram need help with unknown problem
well hello everyone as you can tell I am in a good mood, figured out what was wrong with the truck it was the cat converter in the exhaust ,the plates had finally burned loose and were rattling around inside causing a increased back pressure condition, just to be sure i took it to a good transmission shop and had them do a drain, filter change ,and new fluid also had them look it over inside and out to look for any wear .Guy said it looked like a new tranny inside which I was glad to hear and see for myself ,no metal shavings or gunk at all ,with 175,000 on her I was sweating bullets thinking it would be major rebuild time. went with A new magnaflow cat I was a little hesitant but it was the only one i could get under 200 all the other resources i had were either out of stock or would have to wait a week to get ...so a hundred to put it on and 125 for the tranny service I am out 400 plus bucks but the truck runs like it never has before and the increased exhaust flow made her throatier which I kinda like ,thanks to everyone for their help and support ...
hi guys just a note to respond to the suggestions i have checked the plenum it is clean it is a steel one but not leaking a drop of oil or losing any vaccumm and the o2 sensors look like new ,just replaced the downdraft last year ,the cat converter was not clogged the baffles inside broke lose and were causing to much back pressure soon as i changed it out the truck took off like a shot I will keep an eye on the plenum and maybe change it out anyway this fall but if it aint broke why fix it ?
