Default My problems with A/C is something else.....

- New A/C controls - Replaced
- Blend Door - Crack repaired but no fix to my problem

Problem: Air goes from cold to hot, and then hot to cold, etc, etc while I'm driving. I have diagnosed the problem. I cranked the truck while trying to diagnose the problem. It was still blowing Hot of course and it was on Max A/C. I went up to the front and the A/C Clutch wasn't turning. There's my problem.

As I drove down my driveway, I noticed my A/C got cold again, so I immediately jumped out, popped the hood and noticed that the clutch was spinning.

So I'm assuming it's my A/C Clutch that has gone bad causing this A/C to go from Cold to Hot, Hot to Cold, etc... Correct? I'm just going to replace the entire A/C Compressor with the Clutch instead of replacing only the clutch.

Does this sound like my problem? Seems to be.....

Could be that the clutch is going. If that's the case then I'd replace the whole thing like you're planning. Have you checked the high and low side pressures to see where they are at?

How about your freon level being low do to a leak in the system.

My '89 RamChanger has aftermarket air in it and the compressor will not engage if the freon gets to low.

Freon is charged and no leaks. It's been messed up for a year and a half, and freon levels have been checked a couple of times and they are perfect. Has got to be the clutch, so we're replacing the entire AC Compressor with the Clutch. Gotta call auto parts store Monday morning.

I would ohm clutch to verify it is bad first, then check pressure switches. Otherwise you could be spening money playing parts swap until problem is located...

+1 check as many things as you possibly can before spending the $. Unfortunately it is still cheaper to replace what you think is wrong than take it somewhere to have diagnosed lol. I called a local ac shop to asked how much a nitro fill was and they said $25. Then I got there and the price changed to $98. Jerks. I replaced the evap myself for $70. Then ended up needing a compressor anyway. O well at least I have a new heater core and evap core. Less stuff to fix later.

Did you replace the Cycling Pressure Switch yet? I don't know if the system needs to be bled off or not to replace the switch, but $16 vs. $250.

Just looking for cheap solutions first. Sometimes its the simple things that we over look.

How about putting dielectric grease on the electrical side of the switch to make sure it has good contact.

Not really related but was having all kinds of troubles with my speedo not working all the time, would drop to 0 and and then back to the speed the ABS check light would come on about once a week. I replaced all the ABS sensors, & the speed sensor. I was still having same problem. Got to thinking was acting more like bad connections so I filled them with dielectric grease and no more problems.
