Took my family camping this weekend.I have98 ext cab 318,5spd,4x4 runs good gets about 14mpg. Was pulling camper,when I hit a hill it pings and detonates to beat hell.Idont really want to run hi test,cant afford lo test.Is there any timing adjustment or does th computer handle all of that?

Are you loosing any oil??? My had a blown plenum gasket and when the engine was under strain (going up a hill, ect.) it would ping alot.

Not really,I changed one on my 97 ram might have to do one on this one too.I noticed my other truck rattled when it was idling, this one doesnt.

this may have been a spark knock. check your timing of course you will need a timing light. also to check your intake belly pan gasket remove breather hose from air cleaner box and then remove pcv valve, put 1 thumb over hose that goes to air cleaner and your other thumb over hole in valve cover that the pcv valve is installed into. if you feel a vacuum on your thumb over pcv valve then your belly pan/plenum gasket is blown and needs to be replaced.

also with a motor with over 80~100k miles you might consder a new timing chain (double roller of course). the stock one sucks... it will develop slop pretty quickly from the factory. mine was so bad I had at least an inch of play in both directions...
