Default From dead E-fans to Live E-Fans

Bought a Perma-Cool CoolPak (19520) way back when. Towed a trailer from Illinois to Texas, not knowing that the inline fuse to the battery was corroded. Got to Oklahoma for a fuel fillup, noticed that the fans were not running. Before I left the station I jostled the fuse wire, the fans kicked on. Somehow I rationalized that the system would work now, no need to eliminate the fuse or replace the fuse reciever itself. Wanting to save time, I drove the rest of the way, windows down, heater on full blast (did I mention it was August) to keep the engine temp down. Long story short, got there fine, fans were functional, but the control system was dead. Since then I have been turning the fans on through a switch I wired in the cab. I got tired of it. I went and bought a Derale Adjustable Electric Fan Controller (16759) and an Electric Fan Relay Harness (16763). Attached are the wiring instructions for the controller and the relay, and my hand drawn pretty picture of how to wire them together. Hardest part was taping into the wiper motor system for the 12V switched ignition source, but that would take only 10 minutes if I had to do it again. Fans were Perma-Cool 2950cfm 16" fans, and since they are somewhat out of business, I went with the Derale brains.

Well, I just reused the Perma-Cool shroud and the Perma-Cool fans it came with.

Yeah, if you go to summit racing (http://www.summitracing.com/search/?...%2019520&dds=1) you can see their shroud, comes with the bracket for the coolant reservoir and the wiper fluid. Cost me somewhere around $560 when it was new in 2008. Electronics died on me in 2010, had ben manually turning them on and off. Always worried me when someone would borrow the truck. I got 'em working again a couple of weeks ago.

Price goes up when you go out of business. It's pretty straight forward, the TCP shroud is identical (in pics anyway). The part that holds the fans mounts to the radiator, then there are two brackets that bolt to it, one for the coolant and one for the wiper fluid. I wouldn't pay $1000 for it, I'd buy a motorcycle or scooter.

The TCP shroud and the perma cool aluminum blade fans would be pretty cool and could help save some of the $ hit.

Those fans look pretty sweet. If a branch goes in there out comes sawdust. If a branch goes in mine out comes plastic.
