Default need help on 01 ram

My dad asked me to take a look at his truck because it was leaking water from under the dash on the passenger side. It sounded like the a/c drain coming out of the firewall was stopped up with something. well as i was messing with it i didnt see excatly where the water was dripping from inside the cab but the carpet was very wet. I used my air compressor and blew air into the drain coming out of the firewall. But i was wondering if that drain is suppose to have a hose coming down a little ways or not because his doesnt its just a little piece of metal about an inch long coming out of the firewall under the hood. Any help will be appricated..

thanks, ryan

Sounds more like a bad heater core..

The A/C drain is exactly that, a short hose coming out of the firewall.. it just drips from there.

AC drain sticks straight out through the firewall only about 5/8 inch or so and does not have a down pipe or hose from the factory.

one common problem is for seal around the tube to crack, allowing drain water to track back along the tube. solution is to reseal it with black RTV. another common problem is for it to stop up with mud or dirt daubber or mildew or something and not drain. solution is to blow it out like you did, or poke a wire through it to knock out any solids.

some people add a down hose to create a better draft. it doesn't hurt. might help.

If you aren't loosing any coolant it isn't the heater core. Hopefully it's as simple as what Dh said.

Put an old spark plug boot on it and it will be fine. It is a rather hard fit but it will prevent the drain water from going back in at speeds above 45.
