Default trans swap

So my truck (00 1500 4x4 5.9 ) i did a filter and fluid change, adjusted bands, but when i adjusted the front band i noticed that the set screw went way into the casing, as in all the way through the jam nut, so im figuring my front band is shot right? so i take it back home from work and it pops a check engine light saying govenor pressure not at target pressure or something to that tune, so im guessing i need a new tranny agreed so far? last question, my buddy has a 97 1500 5.9 4x4 same body style, ext cab blah blah blah, he blew his motor but his trans only had 5k on a new rebuild...am i able to swap trannys from him or are they not a match?

From '00 to a '97 won't work. They have different solenoids. You need something from a '98 and up.

incorrect. he needs something from 2000, or 2001. i have a 98 trans in my 01, and went without o/d from aug 2010, until friday. of course i still havent driven my truck, because im not done tinkering on it.

the 97 trans will work just fine, all you will need to do is buy THESE parts, or this, and this

i would recommend the last 2 links, as one of them offers the borg warner solenoid, which is an "upgrade" and will give better pressures at WOT. all 3 parts are VERY easy to change, and all you need to change them is a 1/2 socket, to drop the pan, 7/16 socket, and a t20 torx bit to remove everything else.

i would recommend installing one of these, and one of these as well, and it will make changing out the fluid, and replacing a filter 100x easier.

goodluck with your truck, hope all goes well!

the parts i linked to are all oe fit and are the parts you need to get overdrive back after putting the 97 trans in. the only part thats an upgrade is the gov pressure solenoid, which is the borg warner part 12432a, and is still an oe fit.

if you have any other questions, just let me know. like i said in a previous post.... i have a 98 trans in a 2001 truck. it works fine, i just didnt have overdrive, because of the 3 parts i linked you to.

Default a518

can you swap the non electronic a518 in place of the standard V6 tranny and just modify the drive shaft ? Do the electrical plugins interchange ? I want to pput my 440 in my 95 Dakota with the altered bell housing using the JW Ultrabell housing and aftermarket mounts.
thanks Chip

you need s new gov. pressure sensor, and a tcc lock up solenoid for your correct year truck. you will also need a gov solenoid bracket. a 2001 bracket is completely different than a 96-99. i have said bracket you need, as well as a tcc lock up solenoid ill sell you. all you would need is the gov. pressure sensor, and a little clip that holds the sensor in place, that i might have hanging around somewhere as well.

Default 46RE to A518 tranny swap

Redneck RAM.....sounds like you have the same issue of no TCC Lock up after the tranny swap from a 2001 46RE to a A518 of an early year. You stated you ran nearly 2 years without OD, you never stated that the parts you suggested with the links actually fixed the issue. Could you please let us know if that really fixed the issue. If so this will likely fix my issue as well.
