Got a volt meter? Check and see if you are getting 12 volts at the connector for the compressor clutch. (probe both wires, only one side is hot, the other is ground, ground the meter at the battery.....)

Need engine running, and a/c turned on though.

Heyyou
I put the gauge on with engine off I got 85 psi. Started engine and the compressor kicked in (that was a surprise) it pulled down to 25 psi. What does that mean now.

Ah, still low on charge. There should be a chart on the can, that will show pressure you want, in relation to outside temp. Charge to the correct pressure for current temp, and you should be golden.

No info on this can, it's the screw on type not trigger type. What would be conservative for 80 deg. ambient.

What about oil charge??

If the can you have doesn't have oil in with the refrigerant, you need a different can, as you don't have the equipment to put the oil in....

Should be 40 to 50 PSI, with the compressor running.

Ok I put in about half the 12oz can and it still only pulls down to 30 - 35 psi but the air is real cold now. should I add more to get to 40 psi?
