318 to 360 swap
Ok guys i know this comes up on here alot but i have never found a answer on the outcome. i have a 01 Ram 1500 with 318 nv3500 manual tranny. motor is going bad and looking and swapping in a 360 and keeping the manual tranny. I know i will need the 360 flywheel for the balancing but has anyone on here done this? i am wondering if i will have to swap ecms or if mine will work? thanks for any help!

I thought all the 360's were externally balanced by the torque converter and flexplate? If 97+ and up are not then i have been wasting my time waiting no a new torque converter to finish my swap...

Just went from an external balance 360 to an internal balance, had to use a flex plate from 318, and a neutral balance harmonic balancer, the converter stayed the same.

ok so my 94 had a 360 in it and i swapped it out to a 318 from a 01'. I left the 360 torque converter in there and was told afterwards that the 360 torque converter had weights in it for balancing the 360, so i would need to pull the tranny back out and swap the torque converter. It has been sitting there waiting on meto buy a 318 torque converter. So I dont need to worry about the torque converter?

To clear this up.
All 360's are externally balanced from the factory. Magnum 360's had balancing weights on the converter through 1995. Then in 1996 they moved the balancing weight to the flex plate/harmonic balancer. All 360's with manuals are balanced by the flywheel (obviously) and harmonic balancer.
