Default Rear sliding Window conversion?

Hey guys and gals,

Can anyone tell me if the sliding rear windows are a direct replacement. I have a 01 ram and i would REALLY like to have a sliding rear window instead of the solid glass. I will most likely be going to the junkyard to find one, but as it is 1 hour away, i wanted to make sure that it would fit properly before i go wasting my time! thanks in advance!

Im not positive but I would assume that it would be a direct swap.

I busted a regular solid glass window out of my 97' and we put a sliding window in it. I fit in just fine.

I agree. The opening in the cab is the same. Make sure you get the rubber seal with the new rear window. Removing and installing can be tricky without damaging the seal so be careful. I have had good luck with an awl and a pair of friends to help keep pressure on the glass without so much pressure that I worry about breaking it. They also help catch it. It's a common practice for paint shops because it's much better to paint a shell with no glass and they have all the proper tools for removing windows and trim. They might not even charge much if just to swap the windows if you won't want to mess with it.

you need a heat gun of some sort to remove the slider. theyre in there a certain way, and can only come out with the use of a heat gun.

good luck on your endeavor though!

Use the rope trick to put it in. Lay a peice of rope in the seal(about pencil sized) around the whole seal. Set the bottom in place. Get someone to push the glass towards the truck and hold pressure on it. Pulling the rope out(from the inside) will pull the lip of the seal out and over the steel and right in place.

there is no seal like that on the sliders. the sliders are "glued" in place, and require heat to remove. there are metal clips at the top, and urethane around the whole window that needs to be heated up to melting point to be removed.

its not a fun experience, and requires more than 1 person to remove it.

Doesn't sound like it. Hope I never get to experience that. If so, the same glass shop that did the extended cab door will probably be called.

im telling you, there is no seal to do the rope trick on the sliders at ALL! trust me. ive been trying to get a used slider for 3 years now and NO ONE will remove one, because they cant get them out. only way to remove them is with a special heat tool, or a heat gun and a friend.

Piano or guitar string should work. Push it through the urethane and "saw" it around.
