sounds like you are going to have some fun. i don't think you will be able to redo your 96 once you start driving the 85. you will probably start working on the 85 and forget all about the 96.

How did you check the plenum? Just curious. Easy if you do it right, easy to misdiagnose as "no problem" if you don't. This will cause excessive fuel consumption, engine miss, fouled plugs, and evenually cracked heads. Other than that, no major problems! Fisxing that and timing set will help mileage considerably. The other things like tune, efan and other items will improve slightly as someone else already mentioned, so start with the big items like plenum for the fasted improvement.

My wife's plenum blew. When I finally figured out the problem, the cat had plugged and the extra heat by the tranny roasted it. It got hot enough to weld the torque converter in it. I say it took a week and a half. She never bothered mentioning that she poured a quart of oil in it a week ago and another in it that week. It started shifting funny and two days later was dead. About $60 worth of parts/oil for plenum gasket replacement(my labor, priceless) and $1300 on a transmission. I haven't bothered looking at the plugs but it seems to run ok. Probably better if I would change them. Tapped out at the moment, so later it is. Moral of the story: Don't just turn the key and drive, pay attention to your vehicle.

I treat my truck like a lambo....check fluids once a week....redo diff fluid every 7k...tranny/transfer case and filter every 10k .....oil with mobil 1 synthetic a an expensive bosch filter every 6k....coolant every 25k...power steering every 25k....never flushed the brake fluid though
