Default towing ability

greetings,
im new here. i have a '99 laramie slt 1500 quad cab. it has a 5.9 and 3:55 transmission. i do not have the owners manual. can anyone tell me what the towing capacity is? i dont know what abuse the previous owner put it through, but you can tell there was a ball on the bumper. i bought it in march 2012 with only 90k miles on it, that was the big selling point for me. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Forget the ratings. Ive pulled 6k in mine a few times and never had a problem. I pull 2-4k loads everyday almost.

Tow rating depends on more than whether or not you did it. I put a live rim fire .22 cartrige in a waad of silly putty and bounced on the floor...Just because I did it and lived doesn't mean everyone should.

Pay atttention to the ratings of the tires on the tow vehicle...To really tow anything more than golf cart you you need E rated tires pumped up to 70-80 psi.

Do it right, or don't do it....You're not the only one on the road.

ive got load range e tires, and a brake controller. tires were at 55 psi when i towed both jeeps.

ive had a lot of practice and good teachers when it comes to towing.

i have to ask - why?

when i was about 12 years old, my next door neighbor, Stanley Millwood, used to hold .22 shells in a pair of pliers and hit the primer with a hammer. they'd go off and throw a bullet somewhere. Later on at about 14-15 he was a holy-mother-****ing terror in school, and quit at about 15. I wonder if he's still alive today?

I've hauled a honda accord and a ford ranger in a 8.5 by 22 enclosed trailer. Same trailer I've hauled 2 mowers at about 1000 LBS a piece and i will be hauling same trailer fully loaded, helping someone move. I will try and get a pic. 2morrow of b4 and after airbags.

Just remember to turn off the overdrive, and towing is different than hauling.
