Default 96 ram 5.9 4WD engine probs no codes

My friend has a 96 5.9 ram and while driving, it sputters, skips, will shut off and back on its own and occasionally backfire. Seems to do this after warming up. He has changed plugs, wires, dist and button. He has changed crankcase sensor and one of the sensors at the throttle body, not the MAP Sensor. Had anoressure gauge on the fuel system and pump is good, was replaced a year ago. Hes done fuel systemtreatments, air filter, and other basic tune ups. Heard it could be the computer or exhaust system.... No engiane Codes
Thanks for the help

Unplug the front O2 sensor, and see if that doesn't improve its attitude.

I think you need to actually remove the 02 sensor(front) from exhaust, then see if it improves.

Did not work. Went to a reputable mechanic and it acted up on the way up there but they could not find any problem adter running a diagnostic and test driveing three times

If it was a GM, I would say EGR but these trucks don't have them. I would do a DEEP check on all electrical connections for the battery cables, make sure that there is no loose-ness or corrosion. Check not just the battery & fuse box, but at the starter, alternator & block ground also. When things warm up, they expand, cold they retract. This can mean anything that is near enough to the engine that would expand is causing it, like the starter, or a sensor. It also can effect wires leading to the sensors in the sense that breakage under the insulation wont show but heat expansion causes them to move apart after running for a bit. an E-proble would help that search as would a test light & a basic ohm meter.

Thinking that when the mechanics hooked up their diagnostuc equip and drove it around, maybe it reset the computer. Runs like a champ now.
