Default 96 Dodge RAm with some issues...advice on what to check...

Evening all!

Here is the problem...my 1996 Dodge RAM 1500 (2WD 5.2L 318) has been having the following symptoms...(btw it does NOT have an EGR).

o Running very rough
o P0300 code with random misfires on all cylinders
o Shakes when I get up to about 45 -50 mph

What I have done within the last couple of weeks...

o Replaced the cat (Done by shop. They also checked spark plugs and wires...said they were good.)
o Replaced the plenum gasket (Did this myself).
o Replaced cap and rotor

Any thoughts on what the problem could be?

Maybe a camshaft position sensor.

Check your wires and plugs yourself, if they show any age at all go ahead and get ones and make sure they're routed right

Shaking at 45 is from the miss

Oh and if you have plugs with platinum/fancy rare earth metals ditch them and don't Look back, get something with just copper, ngk, champion or autolites

Ditto or+1 on all that. Just for fun, take a spray bottle and mist your plug wires and coil in the dark. Careful for moving parts. Did it run like this before you changed dist cap and rotor?..maybe bad parts, doublecheck cap is screwed down tight. Also if your plenum gasket was blown for a time, then front 02 and cat may need attention.

Default Appreciate the feedback and tips...

All,

Thanks for your thoughts. I will check out that camshaft sensor and double check the spark plug wires.
