Default permanently installing garmin gps

Hey guys,

I wanna get rid of that stupid charger for my garmin. I hate how it dangles infront of my dash and such. So what im thinking is just to hook it up to the electrical system in my truck. Now the charger converts the power from 12volts to 5 volts. Would anybody of some sort of relay or converter?

take the 12v charger apart, and locate the 12v pos and neg inputs. make new wire leads and wire it to the fuse block on the end of the dash. make sure its fused.

But the charger coverts it from 12 to 5 volt so I don't know if I can still do that then

the charger contains a step down transformer or resistor to convert from 12 to 5v. the idea was to take the case apart, and make that component into a stand alone device.

or you can buy something like this. note that this one comes from china, so it might take a long time.
