Default pull the bed or drop the tank

This is going to be all new to me changing the fuel pump cause I've never done it. It is is one of the few pieces i haven't replaced on my truck since i got it in February 05'. I had the problem with my truck not wanting to start sometimes so I would just swap the fuel relay fuses and it would run like a champ, the fuse I pulled was usually very hot. well yesterday it died on me so I just went to swap the fuses again but this time it din't work and the pump doesnt even kick in when I turn the key. So hopefully it's the fuel pump. anyway what's the best strategy you guys may have experience, pull off bed or drop the tank? Btw the tank is full.

no personal experience, but i would jack up the bed. that way you can instantly test it. not sure, but i think? you can jack up the front of the bed and not have to completely remove it or lift it all at once.

There is a pretty good thread in the diy section, they sell a small pump you can hook up to a cordless and use to get a lot of the fuel out of the tank. regardless , the tank will be heavy and awkward. use two jacks and some wood blocks.

and mark the location of the outs of the old pump onto the top of the tank so when you put the new pump in you will not get your gauge float in a bind.

This is just something you can do to make it easier if you have to do it again and its what im doin....i have a thick plastic bedliner im going to pull it up and cut a hole right above the fuel pump so the tank wont have to be dropped or bed pulled up to change it...

But in my honest opinion dropping the tank is the easiest way

There are some advantages of pulling the tank, one is why would you put a new fuel pump in a dirty tank? By having the tank out of the truck it makes it very ez to clean the tank out well.

I vote pull bed(unless it's empty, then it's a draw). Two people can grab it at the fender, as long as it's empty and no tool box, and walk it back a few steps and let it lean against the frame, or sit it on a sawhorse. Finding enough containers to put 20+ gallons of gas in is hard for me. You don't get near as much dirt in your eyes either.

Drop the tank. And replace the brake line while it's out.
