Bad Driveshaft U-Joints?
I had to do my timing cover gasket...... as it started leaking coolant. (in a major way....) So, I figgered I might just as well do the timing set on my 160K+ mile truck, since I was going to be RIGHT there. I am VERY glad I did. That was about THE best 'mod' I have done on my truck. The difference in the way it ran was night and day. (and that was the only thing I did on that repair)
I also replaced the water pump, since it had to come off anyway..... don't forget the short bypass hose from the pump to the intake either..... and I just got a new steel tube (complete with O-ring) for the heater hose. Mine had rusted out, and the end fell off... no way that was ever going to seal again.
Timing cover gasket set will come with a new front crank seal as well. Don't forget to change that... you want the set that does NOT have the repair sleeve for the crank seal.
Changing everything was easy. Took me about two hours. (bear in mind though, that I have been doing this kind of thing for better than 30 years....) It's really straightforward. (and I had air tools...) Make sure to clean ALL gasket surfaces REALLY well..... don't wanna have to go back in there because of a leak.
