Default Loud engine whistle?

So my brothers ram (1997 5.2 2wd) has the loudest whistle coming from the engine. its a constant high pitched noise that sounds almost like a vac leak. maybe it is. so far we've checked all the accessories (alt, pump, ect) by removing the serpentine, checked thoroughly for vacuum leaks, and looked at the throttle body. So far NOTHING. The truck runs fine and all, but I feel this is definitely something to take care of soon. Any ideas? thanks

Mine sounds annoying since I put the cold air intake on.

Mine is nice and loud when I first start it because theres no air box gasket like that other guy said, and the air cleaner is beat to crap and is full of cracks.

My 98 was doing that when I bought it a year ago, I changed the intake gasket becuase of the oil in it. Never thought about it but I haven't heard it since. I just bought a 2000 ram that has a very loud vacuum sound in the left valve cover. The pvc was going crazy. It also has oil in the intake. So I am going to probably change the gasket eventually. Both trucks ran fine with the noise.

How'd you check thoroughly for vacuum leaks? Spray carb cleaner around the intakes vacuum lines, make sure the gasket on the air cleaner to TB is secured correctly, make sure the 4 TB bolts are torqued down. If you've ever removed the TB and reused the old gasket...change it out for a new one. The gasket must be changed every time.
