Default Tire and rim question

Hi All,

I have a 1995 Ram 1500 Extended cab, 2WD, 360ci. Love it will never sell it.

I bought it lightly used many years back and it does not do a lot of miles. When I had to replace tires about five years back, I ordered (live out in the boonies) the stock tires. 225/75 16 as p[er the manual.

I had a devil of a time fitting them. Well, not so much fitting them, but getting the beads up onto the rim as the tires seemed narrower. They were a slightly different size to the worn ones, but I can't remember exactly what they were. Finished up taking them into town and the tire guy used a 5-gallon air tank with a big valve and nozzle to blow them onto the rim.

Anyway, time for new tires and I want to get the bigger size, but cannot remember where I safely put the details of the old ones. I seem to think the original tires when I bought it were 245-something.

I have found some 245/70-16 will they fit OK? They are about the same OD at 29.3 compared to 29.05 (or vice versa)

Thanks

Clarke

It has these rims on it

Hi Stewie, Thanks for the quick reply. I will order a set today. I guess the bigger question I should have also asked was, will these 245 tires need the big tank to blow them on to the rims? Or, are they more likely to rest/seal against the rim and just blow on with air? Clarke

Use a ratchet strap around the tire to help seat the bead.

245/70/16s aren't very big. But when mounting to a wheel without machinery it can be fun!

Once on the rim itself I've used a small amount of gasoline to seal the bead, I don't suggest that route, but it does work....
