Default 2000 dodge 3500 deisel fuel pumps

Hello
I have a question is it common for a 2000, 3500 diesel to have both a lift fuel pump on the engine block and in the tank from the factory? The mechanic working on the truck thinks it should be one or the other .He knows more about ford trucks then dodge .This more for my info.

Thanks for any info.

The one on the motor should be an injection? pump and there should be a lift pump in the tank...The lift pump puts out about 40-50 psi and the injection pump puts out 200+ psi....

From the factory, it's one lift pump located at the engine. Dodge made another lift pump kit that could be installed in the tank to help curb the problems of the original lift pumps dying and taking out the VP44 (although it still happened). You can have both OEM and in tank pumps (or lift pumps, such as FASS, which are mounted on the frame) running at the same time...which from what I'm reading is what you have?

Thanks for info I am the second owner , the first owner must have added the in tank
pump. I am going to go to a airdog II 100 and install a fuel guage .The lift pump has failed twice in the last year .
