Default Lighting Problem

Having issues with 96 Dodge Ram. The turn signals work. The parking lights, taillights, and back up lights are not working. The brake lights work but only when the headlights are off. Checked the fuses in the dash and under the hood. Any thoughts on what could be causing this would be appreciated. Thanks

The brake switch does only one thing, and that's 'allow' voltage to the brake light circuit. Since you said the brake lights work when the main light circuit is off, I have to assume the brake switch works fine.

The headlight switch, which controls the main lighting circuit, is what I am saying could have failed. It's rather easy to get to and not an expensive fix if that is indeed the case.

Recheck fuses for good connection in slot, in particular the park lamp fuse. Can bend the spades a little in opposite direction and reinsert. Do you have dash lights? I just had the same problem, took a week to figure out it was a loose fuse. Bought and changed headlight switch, wasn't the problem. They aren't that cheap.
