Default Cylinder heads

Jyst wondering if the stock heads cracking is a common problem with our trucks. I took my heads in for a valve job and was told both are cracked. I spoke with a few machine shops locally and they all said that our heads are prone to cracking.

I'm looking at Odessa for new heads, but am sceptical to buy remanufactured heads if they are so prone to splitting.

Please help

Yea its common for the stock heads to crack. Odessa heads are a good replacement. The heads crack due to a blown plenum that clogs the cat and then the heads crack. Address those issues while your in that far

already fixed those, has a new walker high flow cat and I just installed the hughes plenum plate. So re manufactured iron heads from odessa should be a safe replacement then? I can't afford brand new heads

Check hughesengines.com and look at the 4670B heads.

Do NOT get the reman heads. Odessa also makes NEW heads, that are MUCH better castings, and less prone to cracking. The reman heads are exactly that. Stock factory heads that someone else got tired of, and used as cores, to purchase NEW heads.

Odessa makes the better heads in both stock valve size, and also larger valve flavors. You can even order them up with better valve springs for more lift, should you decide to do a cam swap while you are in there.... (hint hint )

Depends on what ya wanna do. if you are looking for more top end power, go with the larger valve heads. If not, stick with the stock size.
