Default 5" Lift Kit Required Mods

I bought a 2001 ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 sport with about 3" of lift and 35's and they are bald and rub a little. so when i get new tires they're gonna rub like mad. I'm going to get a 5" lift (https://www.topguncustomz.com/p-5272...-lift-kit.aspx) and i'm wondering what I will need to do as far as transfer case rotation, extended brake lines, and lengthening the driveshaft and what not? What have you guys experienced as far as the other required mods to do a 5" lift? Also I'm looking at doing a 2" body lift as well so what will be required for that (aside from the lift itself) and will this clear 38x15.5-16's? Thanks a ton guys!

Not sure about driveshafts and whatnot but you better start saving for a transmission. Those size tires without the correct gears will fry it.

You will need new upper and lower control arms, drop pitman arm, and an adjustable track bar, drop track bar brackets... Someone will chime in if I missed anything, I think that's most of it

If you're removing the 3" suspension lift you have on there now, then adding the 5" kit... then you're all set. You don't need anything else. Adding the body lift won't require anything else besides the lift pucks and maybe bumper brackets.
So 5" lift kit, 3" body lift and your good.

If you're trying to fit 38's get the three inch body lift. But you're most likely not gonna fit 38's that are 15.5" wide. You'll need more around 10" total lift for that. 38x12.5 should fit.

Other things needed (and already mentioned) something around 4.88:1 gears, and a mega viper trans couldn't hurt.

For a five inch lift you do not need to clock the t case, extended brake lines are a good idea if you flex it out, drive-shafts will be fine.

I would ditch the rear blocks and upgrade to a add a leaf, other than that for the lift the rest is in the kit.

For the body lift, a welder is going to be needed to weld the shift linkage rod, keep a eye on the wiring harness in the engine bay.

I would agree on needing the 10" lift 7" won't cut it.

The front Dana 44 will not like the 38.5x15 tires one bit, well the unit bearings won't anyway's.

Next a 440bbm, Dana 60 front, Dana 80 back, np203/205 doubler t case set up, etc

Another flavor that fits 38s like a breeze is 5" sl + 3" bl. Remove rear blocks and do shackle flip instead. See below example with rock krawler long arms.

Do some research.

Thanks for all of the input guys! I just threw a new(er) trans in it about a month ago. It's got 4.10's in it right now. Do you think that the 35's will still kill it? I'm planning on a gradual complete overhaul of the truck over the next 6-9 months or so. This includes getting the motor upto about 400hp and getting a built trans to match. This will only be used to tow a Malibu Wakesetter (23'). Do you think that this will be ok?

As for the lift situation, I'm not sure whether the current lift is spacers or what. I'm planning on doing one with coils up front and blocks in the rear and then i'm going to install an add-a-leaf as well to get the *** like an inch higher or so (I like the SLIGHT rake that a truck has).

Seeing as how I'm buying a cherokee for wheeling here in the next month or so and this truck has 35's on dana 44's it wont be seeing any off roadings aside from mud pits and dirt trails and maybe some back country hill climbs. I live on the loud petal so I'd snap axles, I already know how I am. hehe

So it sounds like that lift kit will be ok and I should invest in some brake lines right away then.

Does anyone know a link to putting off road lights behind the grill of these trucks? Want to maybe fit some 4x6's or even 6x9's?

Thanks guys!!

There is already blocks on the rear axle. I really don't like stacking blocks.... see if you can upgrade to a spring lift...
