another tranny problem?
hi my 01 4x4 tranny has been acting up ,when I'm driving along between 40-50 mph in overdrive I notice the tach jump 200-300 rpm's for a split second, mostly when the engine is cold. Not sure if the tranny is slipping or It's jumping out of overdrive. Has anyone seen this before?
yes, it's your torque converter locking and un-locking. if your foot is on the throttle steady when it does this, your TPS is noisey and you need a new one... they are about $35 bux and take less than 5 minutes to swap out...
a bad one yes, but yours is still working but it's noisy. the signal that is sent back to the PCM is not clean and the PCM things your on the gas more than you really are, then it un-locks the TC. this is a common problem on the rams...
Steve is right! I just fixed the same problem with mine. Dealer could not find the problem cause it didn't give them a code. I got on here (2001 Torque Converter Lock-up Problems) and found out what it was and fixed it with a new TPS and computer reset. (unhook the batt. and turn ignition to "run" for 15 minutes or so) $32 at O'Reillys for TPS
