Default Mopar Valve Cover Wiring Question

First post to this site, but just about everything I know about my 99 Ram 1500 comes from here so I already owe a lot of thanks for the repairs I've done to date.

I'm almost finished with an upper engine rebuild on my 5.9 Magnum and have replaced the original (cracked) heads with Indy Iron heads, Harland Sharp 1.7 roller arms, new hydraulic lifters, and pushrods. While at it I slapped some Gibson headers on the side, a 52mm Fastman throttle body on top, and a Hemifever tuner inside. I have been doing my reading, and am excited to breathe life into the old girl!

However, when replacing the original valve covers with the cast aluminum Mopar ones (P5007617) I have found that I cannot use the stock studs to mount the spark plug wire holders--they barely bite into the head.

Does anyone have any idea of a good wiring option (in spec with TSB 18-98-48) that would work with these valve covers? To date, searching the forum for "spark plug wiring" and "spark plug wires" and "spark plug retainers" hasn't turned up very much, but I've seen pictures of rigs that use these valve covers and would like to know how they ran the spark plug wires.

I look forward to posting instead of lurking from here on out, and really appreciate the posts I've followed since finding this forum!

Will

I don't have a picture of my Ram's engine bay but I use Firecore 50 wires and just run them over he top of the valve cover...These are the old Taylors (junk) I had on my Dakota's 360...Have Firecore's on the 408 now.

I look the look of those wraps [in the jpeg], they look like they'd work well my Magnecor (80219) set. I'll look around the internets!

Thanks!

I'll look into the zip tie idea. I was using two of them per wire pair to create a 90-degree junction between adjacent crossing wires, hoping to avoid induction as described in the TSB.

I never thought of trying to tie them in over the valve cover, though...

thanks!

Same here, I have been looking for a more presentable wiring option.

I found an image of the workaround you're describing, definitely doable.

I'll look on the jegs site Monday and see if there's something workable. I saw a Spectre product (not my favorite brand by far) that mounts to the valve cover bolts that I may use
