Default My Project this weekend - Complete brake overhaul

My Project this weekend - Complete brake overhaul-3k2ar.jpg

Calipers, Rotors, Pads, Hoses, Drums, Shoes, Wheel cyls, drum hardware kit, cleaner and fluid.

Got All my bases covered I think. About $440 for the lot after core refunds on the calipers, not too shabby.

Any words of advice before I dive in?

I am expecting my drums and rotors to be in horrible shape, shoes down to the rivets, etc...I will post pics

P.S. The Cat is my assistant.

I would advise a complete fluid flush. DOT 3 should be changed about every two to three years.

Are you keeping the wheel cylinders stock or are you doing the 1 ton upgrade? Looks like you got your bases covered.

Thanks for the advice. I do plan to flush the fluid out with fresh dot 3 :-)

I got "Severe duty" cyls. I assume those are the 1 tons. They were the only ones available. 10 bucks per.

For future reference (and IMO) you're better off buying the caliper rebuild kits rather than buying new or refurbished calipers.

Also, you don't have your location in your profile, but I would also recommend removing the bleeder valves of the calipers and cylinders and applying a light coat of Anti-seize to the threads. Put just enough on the threads to make them silver-colored. That way they won't rust in place and will make future bleeding a breeze.

I'd check your cat too, looks like it is getting clogged.
