Default 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L

EVERYTHING I FIND SHOWS THAT 95 -02 ARE THE SAME. AS WELL AS SAME TRANSMISSION. I don't understand why it won't line up.

Because 94 (and even earlier)-95, are 46RH transmissions, 96 and up are 46RE trans. The trans will physically bolt up, but, will NOT work correctly. Also, on the RH transmissions, with a 5.9 engine, the torque converter helped balance the motor, (externally balanced engine) so it need to be indexed correctly, thus, one offset bolt hole. Not to mention electrical differences from 99-00 and up......

That trans will NOT work. You need one from a 96-99.

Or you need a lot of time and money to keep trying other combinations until you figure out that HeyYou was right

Default Couple questions

I recently purchased a beautiful 2000 ram 1500 318 with a auto trans. It runs great until it's nice and warmed up then it acts like it's stuck in 2nd. I don't like automatic transmissions and I want to do this swap. Would it be worth buying a manual transmission wiring harness? Should I buy say a 98 model donor truck or just what I need? Does it affect anything else such as speedo or tach? I know this is a older post and I appreciate anyone who can push me in the right direction.

Should be able to use your harness as all you need is the reverse switch. Will have to have your computer flashed for the manual trans.

Ive completed the swap to a nv3500 as well, still have error codes, anyone figure any ways to get rid of these codes? dont really want to buy a manual computer, thinking of hooking up an arduino or some controller to the auto tranny hookups to give poitive supply to the sensors. otherwise try to find a way to flash at home. If anyones figured this part out plz share. Thanks

Have the PCM flashed for the 5.9 and manual trans. Should take care of the issue.
