Default Horse power specs

I have a dodge with a 5.9 in it now with a few small upgrades. Down the road I will add more as more money comes in. I know the 5.9L magnum stock puts out 245HP and 295lbs of torque. Has anyone dynoed there 5.9 with some big performance upgrades on it? Like CAI, flow master exhaust, chip, headers etc etc. I want to know what kind of power this can put out when time and money is put into it. Any info would be nice.

No need to apologize

These motors can make some big hp and tq numbers, it comes down to one thing and one thing only, how much do you want/willing to spend.

This would be a great way for you to start.

Just to give you an idea

I plan on getting performance headers, duel flow master exhaust straight piped, 9mm wires and good plugs and performance cap. I have a CAI and 180 thermo, gonna get a stage 2 chip and 1.7rr then move my gears to 4.10. What is a good estimate of my power after that?

You'll want more torque if you pull trailers, etc...

There are a few people in the 2nd Gen Section that have dynoed their trucks and have posted the results in the General Discussion Section, you'll just have to search for those.

Most CAI are a waste of money as most of them draw air from the same location as the stock box, a simple K&N or Spectre drop in filter works good. I have a Spectre 14x3, and I like it.

First and foremost you need to fix the plenum if you haven't already done so, thread at the top of the 2nd Section. Also need to address catalytic converter and pre-cat O2 sensor, as the blown plenum kills the sensor and plugs up the cat. Full tuneup while you're at it.

Free flowing exhaust is a help too, I've heard the Flowmasters are restrictive in order to achieve their sound, I like MagnaFlow and have thought about a Cherry Bomb Extreme...

New timing time, double roller, can bring back some life as the stock ones stretch over time.

I was going to suggest an SCT Tune but I see you have a '94, I think you can get some Mopar Performance PCM's or a flash for yours, not sure...

I hate trying to give est hp numbers, I'll go high at say 20hp increase over stock. What you see posted for numbers increases on ads are not always right.

Can you please give us a link to that 2 stage chip, your truck is a 94 so the sct tuner is out, that leaves a Mopar performance pcm or have yours sent out to B&G and have them reprogram it. The so called chips are a waste of money the pcm will override it and you will gain nothing.

Have you done or had a comp test done to this motor? If not it's time to do one, make sure the motor is ready for the mods you are planing.

torque is the mother of horsepower... it is an expression of twisting power.. imagine how much force you would have to exert on a drill bit to stop it from moving..

horsepower is how quickly force is applied, or how much work it can do in a certain amount of time.. can you pick up 100# off the ground in one second? how long will it take you to ****** up 200#? the difference it takes me to do the same amount of work in the same amount of time is the difference in our horsepower..

If you're looking for big big gains you're going to have to actually build the motor, cam, heads, etc...

A whole bunch of bolt on mods might add 20 HP, if you're extremely lucky

Plenum is fixed and cat is cut out, its 2 3" pipes from the headers all the way back. The CAI I got a noticeable gain in power as well as straight piping it. But I had a pipe extension in the CAI that lowered it to the bottom on the engine bay to pull in colder air from below the block. I figured optimistically the CAI gave me 10HP and the piping gave me 5-10HP tops. But not sure what all that other stuff will do, don't really wanna shell out for dynos between each part.

This chip I was looking at http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...rformance+chip
