Default Melted fuel pump?

2001 Ram SLT 5.9l V8. I was pumping gas and kept having a huge spit back cutting off the gas pump. Thought maybe not venting fuel tank during fill up. Checked tank neck/filler hoses and noticed venting hose not connected to anything. Crawled under truck with flash light and this is what I found. Looks like the top is melted. Right where the venting hose would hook up. Thoughts on how? Thanks.

wow, never did see anything like that before. Lots of heat caused that obviously, where it came from is anyone's guess. Check the electrical supply plug.

Disconnect the battery before working on it...
