Default muffler no cat?

So, I had a no muffler to begin with, then added a magnaflow which has a nice tone but is pretty quite. so i was thinking I should either get the cat gutted or just have it removed from the exhuast system?

will this hurt anything that has to do with back pressure or mpg's?

anyone have a truck with no cat but a muffler?

you can get the jegs off road y pipe and do the spark plug no foul thing for the 02's and youll be good as long as you dont have to smog where you live

as long as you don't have an emissions test to fail, there is no harm.
it wont hurt the truck.
it might (or might not) set a CEL for poor cat efficiency.
the low end loss argument is overblown.
i don't think it will change MPG any.
DO leave both your O2 sensors in place.

without a cat - your exhaust will stink, and its louder.
i don't recommend gutting the cat. i think the hollow box acts like an expansion chamber on a 2 cycle and to me - is too loud and clattery.

i have the ypipe above and the stock muffler. its a little louder.

I agree with dhvaughan, my exhaust stinks worse after I had my cat cut out and it deffinetly made everything louder.( I still have to do the spark plug non fouler trick)

I too have gutted my cat and I hate the noise. Clattery is the best description you can come up with. It ruins the sweet note of the rest of the exhaust. But I have had no performance problems with it.
