17" Wheels for my 1999 1500 4x4 ?
1999 Ram 1500 4X4:
My truck has 16" Wheels.
Got a line on some 17" rims, These are my favorite style truck wheels.
Any reason not to go to 17"
I would not mind staying 16" but these style wheels are hard to find

As far as I know they should fit (I believe even the newer style wheels are 5 on 5.5). The only thing that will probably be affected is your speedometer, so if you know where one of those signs is that says "your speed is" drive by after you get them on to see how much your speedo is off so you don't get a speeding ticket =)

Yeah, I'm not sure about the speedo thing or not. That's just what my dad told me when I mentioned putting on 17's to him, and he used to be a tire salesman and shop manager. Let me know how it works out, because I'm interested in putting 17's on for my summer set of tires. (I run studded snow's in the winter, snow gets thick here)
I do have a K&N too, i just got one of the square filters that goes into the stock airbox. You can get spectre for about 10 or 15 bucks cheaper but I just trust K&N, my uncle's have always ran them on their Mustangs and I've never heard anything bad about them.
I also figured that the stock air setup is dang near a CAI anyways.
I like it, the truck does seem to be a bit peppier after putting it in, but then again the one I took out was long past overdue and it could just be my imagination. It was like $40 bucks on amazon and we got it with prime shipping in like 2 days, which was pretty good because usually shipping here sucks.

Wheel size has no effect on speedo accuracy. That's all based on tire diameter.
I have 17's on my 2001 2500 and like them. I wouldn't say there are really any handling differences or anything like that. The truck had 16's when I bought it, and the only reason I changed to 17's was because I already owned a set of 285/70R17 tires and wanted to use them (and the truck's original 16" tires were due for replacement).
The only possible down side to 17's is that the tires are probably going to be a little more expensive. For a long time, 16's have been the main stream of the "usual" tire size, and there are LOTs of choices and prices seem to be low. When you get into bigger wheels, particularly the big 20+" bling wheels, tires get VERY expensive.

I think the price difference will vary, but it is probably fair to say that 17" tires are more expensive than 16" tires. If you were to create two wheel/tire packages of identical brand wheels and tires, with the only difference being wheel size between the two packages, I will bet in most scenarios the 17" will be higher price.
If the original poster is trying to pinch pennies (which is completely understandable BTW!), he will want factor in the total price he can get these 17" wheels, plus the cost of tires, vs. getting a set in 16" instead. That being said, it looks like the wheel he likes is only available in 17".
