Default Air Line Oil Trap for PCV Line

Hello, I felt compelled to share this with you because you guys helped me so much diagnosing my engine vibe( which turned out to be the HB) even though I have a Grand Cherokee with the 5.9 and 46RE.

Well, I just got done with the plenum on my 360 and took a whole afternoon scouring the intake clean. I noticed I had some oil in the intake after I got it all back together and after checking for leak all over the place, I determined that it was coming from the PCV line into the intake. There was a small amount of oil right near that opening. I ended up putting a Husky airline filter inline with the PCV system to catch the oil that may blow-by in the vapor and keep the intake as clean as possible. I kept it at 3/8 opening because I did not want to impede the flow. You can get smaller filters but they use a smaller opening.
They also sell brackets for it. I have my rigged with zip ties until I can fab the bracket.
Here is the link with pictures. It's to a Jeep board I hope you don't mind http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f13/p...h-can-1424223/

That looks awesome man! Whats weird is I've been contemplating doing this exact thing the last couple of days. I got my new JEGS catalog and they had some universal setups in there that gave me the same idea. Hope it works out good!

How often do find that you have to empty the oil out?

I don't know yet. I just put it on. I have probably only driven under ten miles with it so far. Another guy I talked to says he empties his once every 6 months. I would think it depends on how bad the blow by is though.

The Hemi guys have been doing this for quite a while...might not be a bad idea especially on a high mileage truck.

I've read that blow-by is another cause of pre-detonation, and anything to prevent pinging on these engines is worth it IMO...

The right bank is vented to the keg, and the left bank is vented to the air cleaner housing.
Does the vacuum at the keg draw air via the opposite bank/air cleaner?

With a little more research, I came up with this concept also being known as a "catch can".
Here's some more detail on the concept.
And a video of one in use.
JEGS have an air oil separator for ~$45.
