I haven't done an e-fan conversion yet (it's on my to-do list) but I've heard guys on here getting about 1-2 mpg gain. There should be threads on it, search the forum.
Search the posts under my name & you will see the attached diagram for how I did my Efans. I have a V6 Ram & noticed ZERO change in mileage. It does run cooler though, even though the fans rarely even kick in. I guess after removing the GIANT shroud there is plenty enough room for the normal movement of air to do its' thing just fine.
electric fan seemed to make no difference on my 81. i think it did make it quieter and allow it to reach operating temperature quicker which is a good thing since winter is getting close once again. some of the best gas mileage i have got was with that mechanical fan on.
I did a number of things to improve mielage, but I cannot attribute any gain in mpg to e-fans. I can say that it runs cooler, less engine load, and cleans up the engine bay leaving a lot of room.
city driving for me seemed better by 1mpg. response out of the hole quicker, engine warmer faster, and less load on hot days. 3 hp and 9ftlbs gain on my 5.9 with cai and exhaust. power is power any way you look at it freeing up power.
