Sorry but you can ruin the mainshaft that way... And it's really hard to get the surface clean enough to make a good strong weld... Then the nightmare for the person dissasembling it later...
Hey - what bell housing are you going to use to connect the NV4500 to the 5.9??
I'm doing the same thing with my ram 2500
For gasoline engines 5.9L or below, use the "Gasoline" style bellhousing. IDK if the V10s use a different gasoline one or not, I think they use one SIMILAR to the diesel but not exactly. The diesel uses its own bellhousing.
So I used the "Gasoline" bellhousing, since mine was the 5.9L V8.

You would have to be a pretty sh1tty welder to ruin a mainshaft welding a nut to a gear. It's as simple as a spot weld, and it's not hard to get it clean at all.
If you needed to dissemble it later for any reason, all you would need to do is grind through a single spot weld. Simple stuff...

V10's and Cummins use the exact same bellhousing. V8's have a different bolt pattern. Just make sure it's a V8 BH and you are good.

But....but....there are way more sh1tty welders than otherwise. I have read elsewhere of someone welding it and it broke. It being able to break implies a cold weld, yet visually it passed as a "spot weld". However, a spot weld is a through wall weld.
I'm not downplaying that welding is a bad choice, but care is needed for it if that is the option.
Sure will.... Too cold to do much other than run the torch and cut the old u-joints out today... Got to work on my computers some today. Tomorrow is sposed to be warmer.
