Default Weird steering problem

There is something going on with my steering. When I brake I get a weird cracking sound, feels like the steering wheel is moving forward a bit. Like the column is compressing and that's when I get the kinda craking sound. I cannot reproduce it other than when braking. I recently droped the column to replace the heater core and I don't remeber if it was doing that before.

Any idea? could it be the bushing that need to be replace with the aftermarket one??

Ok, so I was going the right way.

What special about this kit? 60$ for a delrin bushing that seems over the top. Let say I have access to delrin is that something that you can mae yourself or there is some special secrets to it??

I suppose you just need the sizes, and the lock ring of course.

From a person that likes to make something as opposed to buying, fix as opposed to replace.....just buy the part. You will be time and money ahead. $60 isn't a bad price at all.

Installed it on mine. Pretty easy, just follow the instructions. I did cut a longer piece of PVC pipe to allow tapping the bushing in while the shaft was on the truck. No complaints so far.

I will probably go that way since it's hunting season and and don't want to have my truck down for to long.

I don't understand why I cannot reproduce that sound by pushing on the steering wheel? From what I get out of the video is that the spring got weak or broke so I should be able just to push on the steering wheel.

You have to go out under the hood and under the brake booster, grab the shaft where it comes out the firewall and see if it wobbles up and down and /or sideways. If it does, the OEM deal is shot. Pushing and pulling on the wheel to see if it loose, only works if you do NOT have a tilt wheel as far as I know. My 98 had no tilt, and I could push and pull the steering wheel in and out a 1/2" . The RS ram bushing fixed it.
