Default Hardware store shift kit?

Hey I have an 03 impala and the shift kits you buy online are just spacers so I went to lowes and got them for a couple bucks. Is it possible to do this with our truck trannies? Does anyone here have a shift kit could they tell me if its just spacers I'd like one but I'd like to just get the spacers from a hardware store like I did for my car and save a big chunk of change

No, it's not just spacers.

On my impala depending how hard you wanted the 1-2 2-3 shifts you can add springs too but I just wanted it to fix a secondary problem. Anyways you don't these can be done for cheap like my car?

There aren't any washers at all in a 46R shift kit. The Fairbanks TransAction kit can be had for $60 to $65 from many sources -- there's no reason to get all hillbilly about it with baling twine, duct tape, and pieces cut out of aluminum beer cans. And besides, the TransAction kit brings with it a nice updating manual valve that provides for torque converter charging in Park. You want that if you've sensibly deleted the factory anti-drainback check valve.

What's the "secondary problem" you want to solve with a shift kit? In most cases when I've heard someone say that, the shift kit just hastened the demise of an already suffering unit.

As UU stated....NO.

Get a Sonnax Sure Cure or Shift Technology Shift kit from Superior Transmission parts. I would not recommend anything else, but there may be others out there. Thses kits include the correct springs, spools, and other required parts. It is more complicated than washers.....

Hey guys I swapped to a manual I was just asking if it could be done cheap because I did it on my car and my friend wanted it on his cummins ill tell him it can't be done haha but anyways on my car the pcs is a common problem and you have to drop the tranny to get to it it's a pain and its Gaurenteed to mess up and go out again it causes max line pressure so it's constantly slam shifting the spacers manually control how far the 1-2 2-3 actuator pistons can move so you get the problem not fixed but over ridden its a really common problem in 4t65e trans and I know Grand Prix guys who have gone 90,000 miles with this fix

Yeah...these transmissions are so similar......

Sonnax Sure Cure list is about $150, and Trans Tec or Trans Go is about $50 or so.

You should encourage your friend with the Cummins to swap in an NV4500 or NV5600.

No worries guys he already has that in the works but in the meantime he wanted to make his experience with the auto "bareable" he's always driven manuals and he hates the auto
