96 Ram Starter will not come out!?
Okay guys remember I took 2 bolts and 1 nut. The bolt for the starter is at 12 o'clock and the nut for the starter is at 6 o'clock if you are facing the starter from the front of the truck right? Just want to make sure of that. I have still had zero luck today. I've heated it up, reefed on it with all my weight, beat on it with a mallet and all that happens is the engine and truck bounce up and down laughing at me.
There has seriously got to be something I'm missing. The bolt on top came off and so did the little clip thing. The nut came off like butter on the bottom. I've felt all the way around and I feel zero other bolts or nuts.

Yeah the top bolts I took off I had to use a long 2 foot extension to get them off from the front of the motor. I am at a loss and really don't want to pay for a tow and mechanic but I am near wits end.
Here are 2 pictures. I have somewhat mangled and taken apart a portion of the starter as you can tell. But it's still stuck. Let me know if you need anything else

It looks like it's corroded to the stud. Double up two nuts on it (stud) lock/jam them tight together and see if you can get that stud to turn. If it does move don't try to take it out all the way at once, work it back and forth few dozen times to help free it up.
merc225hp might be on to something regarding trying to get that stud out. keep spraying that stud with penetrating oil. might even try the ATF + acetone
Yours looks like my 97 and mine only had 2 bolts holding it. I know you've done this, so don't take it the wrong way, but make sure there isn't another bolt on the back side.
You're not crazy. Seems some other folks have had em stick, fwiw

Good luck
Take two nuts that fit the thread size of the stud. If only a small portion of the stud protrudes due to breakage, use thin nuts (half-size). Screw one nut down to the end of the thread length--don't tighten it. Screw the second nut down until it rests against the other nut. Take one end wrench of the proper size and slip it over the bottom nut. Take another end wrench and place it over the top nut. Simultaneously turn the bottom nut counterclockwise, while turning the top nut clockwise. Use this force to "lock" the two nuts against each other. Now turn the top nut counterclockwise to free the stud

There is only 2 attachment points. 1 bolt and one nut. As previously stated, the stud is corroded to the starter. Keep working the starter up and down and sideways and it will come off eventually.
Well guys VICTORY finally! I tried the jam nut method which did not work the stud ended up crappin out so the jam nut would not hold. So I went back at it with a chisel and screw drivers. Focused on the area right below the stud. I ended up getting my power drill our and drilling some holes in it till in hit the stud. Needless to say I need to beat the **** out of it some more with some chisels and drivers till I broke off most of the aluminum around the stud on the starter and then only then it wanted to come off like butter!
Now besides the fact that I need to get a new starter, my last problem just might be that stud. It appears that some of the threads are junk and I am not sure if I can get a new nut on them. Any thoughts or can you re thread it?
Thanks for everything guys. Oh and if you have any suggestions for a starter or install let me know. The DIY section and after all the pissing around with removal, install seems like it will be a breeze.
