Default 1997 Ram cab swap to 2000

I have a 1997 Ram 3500 dump truck and the cab it rusted. I am thinking about
Doing a swap to a cab from a 2000 1500. Bolting it up isn't a problem but I'm
Thinking about using the dash from the 2000 instead of my dash. The newer
Cab has per windows and locks the old has crank windows.

My question/concern is the wiring. How much did the wiring harness change? Can I just plug my old ECM into the newer harness? Anyone ever try this and
What feedback can you give?

Thanks
Steve

Swapping the dash would be cool, but the only real way to do it would be to swap the entire wiring harness too. Unless you have a V8 3500, it won't work. I would just re-use the old dash.

Even with harness modifications? What is different that it won't work?

All the light and heater controls, and the gauge cluster. The cluster is the main one, since it has a digital readout and requires a different computer. Also Pass side airbag, if you care about that...

The donor cab is complete. Including the ecm/PCM. Do you mean by the entire harness meaning the engine as well? Or just the cab harness?

Yes, engine as well. Do both trucks have the 5.9 v8 paired with auto transmission?

Is it a Cummins 5.9? Or the v8? If it's a Cummins, it's gonna pretty much be impossible. The wiring harness is completely different and the gauge cluster is as well.

Maybe you could have the donor computer flashed to match your truck if it's the v8(at a dealer perhaps).
