46re first gear whine

Default 46re first gear whine

when i take off in first gear there is a slight whine, its not loud, but it stops as soon as the tranny shifts up into third, anything to be concerned about? truck has 103k on it and no other major problems, i have no clue what it could be

No idea. But I will say this. I've noticed this with Chrysler transmissions and only Chrysler transmissions. I have a 71 Plymouth Road Runner thats been in my family since my parents bought it new. It too has that "whine" and always has for as long as I can remember. My 97 Ram does it as well.

I don't know if its a sign of anything wrong, but I've never worried about it.

Be happy it propels you in a forward direction. When it stops doing that, then you can worry.

alright thanks guys, i plan on changing the fluid in it pretty soon also so that may help. im just one of those people that has to have everything working correctly

Every transmission based upon the 727 that I've ever seen has a low whine in First and Reverse -- and I noted it before my brand new '68 Coronet got off of the dealer lot. I also noted it on the first drive after my brand new Mega Viper went into my Ram.
