2001 ram 1500 first gear issue
im looking at a 2001 ram 1500 5.9 single cab swb truck. it wont shift into first gear when taking off or down shifting. what are the possible fixes? also has a clicking coming from back of truck sounds like a card in a bicycle spoke possible u joint? thanks
^^agreed.
Clicking might be ujoints in the drive shaft or the limited slip retaining clips broke.
Appears you should get this rig for a VERY low price b/c of all the stuff needing rebuilding/replacement....

guys asking $3800 for the truck . 5in lift 315/75/16 tires 16in mickey thompson wheels. it does take off in second it wont shift into first even if you manually shift it on the shifter. it acts like its in neutral when you pull it in first
does anyone think it could be as simple as a trans flush? could it be a shift solinoid? im new to the dodge thing and would like it if i could get some info on this situation. thanks

Don't listen to anyone who thinks that. Flushes don't ever fix automatic transmissions, but they do sometimes hasten their demise.
Nope.
It could be that the front band is broken, the front band anchor has fallen out (usually because the band has never been adjusted), the front servo piston is cocked in its bore (so not moving), or a failure in the valve body. It could be an easy fix, it could be rebuild time. The only way to know for sure is to drop the pan and have a look.
If you can't pick that truck up for dirt cheap or wouldn't enjoy working on it, it's an easy pass.

For sure, your friend should be able to give you a real good idea what it''ll take, money wise, to get it repaired. Then you can use that to negotiate a better price...unless this truck is in excellent condition other than tranny, and they have repair factored in. But I wouldn't bet on a easy fix.
