Default Oil pressure dropping

I have a 01 dodge ram gas 2500 v10 . Recently I replaced the ball joints and wheel bearings on the front and when I put it back together I was getting a abs light, and a brake light. So I ignored it. Then my tranny starting shifting weird. I took it and had it scanned. No codes come up at all. Two nights ago I went to leave and my oil pressure gauge drops to zero then back up. So I did some research and replaced the oil pressure switch. I just took it for a drive and after about 7 miles it did it again. So I took it and had it scanned. Nothing again. Is there a possibility that my ecu is bad? I'm trying to drive to Colorado in a few weeks and need to get it figured out ASAP. Also the stores computer said for a pcv valve it's no required.

All your problems are not related. I would assume the your '01 would have 4 wheel abs like mine does? if so, did you replace your hub with the right one that includes the abs sensor/wires? If this doesn't apply to you then I'd look at your fluid level see if you might have a leak. If everything else is all set then you've gotta replace the speed sensor in the diff.

If your trans is shifting oddly then check fluid level and condition(truck in neutral and warmed up)..if its all good, pull off the pan off and clean the governor solenoid and change the fluid and filter.

As for the oil pressure problem, check the oil level. if its good, hook up a mechanical gauge an see what the pressure is really doing. If its actually dropping then you might have to change the oil pump an pickup tube. If pressure is actually normal, then you've got a problem with the gauge and wiring itself.

The wheel hubs are brand new and did have abs sensors and they were also replaced. The oil level is perfect and just was changed about 50 miles ago. Tranny fluid is the same but I'm gonna change the fluid and filter tomorrow. The main thing to me is the oil pressure cause the tranny doesn't do it all the time.

Have you removed the tranny check valve? If not that should be done ASAP, a how-to is in the FAQs section. And make sure you clean the governor solenoid when you've got the pan off, that's also in the FAQs section. And check to see if you've for any metal shaving on magnet in the pan...that's a bad sign.

If oil level is good and you've got a new sender (and there's no knocking sounds in the engine) it's likely the gauge/wires, a mechanical gauge will verify that.

Gonna check the tranny out tomorrow. Where can I get the gauge from an where does it hook up too. ? Does it screw in where the switch goes?

Any auto store should have one. I think you just put it in place of the oil psi switch, maye someone who's done it can answer.

Well I replaced the oil pressure switch and took it for a ride about after 10 miles it did the same thing so I went and bought a mechanical gauge. I installed it and just took it out. Drove about 14 miles and everything was fine. Pressure steadely at 25-30 pounds when I open it up it shoots to about 40-45 pounds at the end of my run it dropped to 0 I pulled over to check if I was leaking oil. No where was there a drop so I started it back up it went to 20 pounds. As soo as I started driving it dropped again and I could hear my valves a little. Just parked it at home. My guess is my oil pumps is going bad and just a matter of time before it stops completely.

Default Conclusion

Well first I should say I almost set this thing on fire I was so tired of it. So a few day ago I dropped my oil pan. It was a pain in the *** getting it out. You literally have 2 1/2 inches between the oil pan and frame. I couldn't get it out at all. I unbolted the oil pickup tube and was moving the pan around. Even with the 2 bolts off the pickup tube it wasn't moving. It was dark and looked like someone in welded it on. I kept moving the pan around and then finally I heard the pickup tube drop in the pan. I got it out and looked in the pan. There was a bunch of corrosion I mean some big chunks. I cleaned the pan with a Brillo and kerosene and took a long flat head and laid under the truck with a light and began scraping wherever I could get. The chunks just kept falling I was scraping it easy. I took a rag soaked in kerosene and wiped where I could it dripped over cardboard for 3 days till my gaskets came in. After I got everything I had to put small wood blocks on the motor and jack it up and loosen my motor mounts to get the pan and tube back in. After that I put it all together. And now when it starts it shoots up to about 40-45 drops to 20-25 at idle after warm and hits about 50 at high rpms. I'm just glad I didn't have to do the oil gear assembly now. Hope this helps. And my abs lights on cause some dumb *** lady who stalks me cut them instead of my brake lines haha

Funny I stumbled across this thread, I just dropped my pan to look at my pickup tube over the weekend too.

My screen was partially clogged- I'm happy I got to it when I did.

I'm assuming you have a 4X4, so I am not certain how much room you would have to drop the pan, but I sure as hell didn't have much.

Got it done without lifting the motor though, granted I had my father helping me the whole time.

Definitely a job I will not want to do again any time soon- one of the messiest ones I've had to do on my rig.
