I picked up the new coil on E-Bay for-- $11.45 including shipping! I'll be dropping that sucker in tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm leaning towards Wednesday, the forecast calls for 60 and sun-- not bad for January in New England!

Thirty dollars in gas and many miles later, no CEL! I'll be sure to grab a picture of the new O2 sensor (post-installation) tomorrow. If it wasn't snowing, I'd slide under the truck and take one now.

I vastly underestimated the importance of bed-weight for RWD traction. Even two inches of snow is enough to turn this truck into a sleigh, and my tires are new! Lesson learned; next winter: 50lb sandbags.

I tackled the new coil today. Corrosion locked the bolts into place, consequently, the heads stripped. I used a pair of vice-grips to grab and turn. My plan at that point was to use two 1/4 bolts, a short lived idea. Both heads sheared off, along with the remaining studs. Following KISS, I taped the coil to the intake duct (I plan to ground it later).

I drove about sixty miles yesterday, no CEL yet. The double non-fouler appears to be working flawlessly. I was also able to cruise at seventy-five with no problem, a first.

Here is a picture of the non-foulers post-installation...

Updates to come.

Man, is that ever a bodge job on the coil "mounting". Why again did you not just drill out the studs and replace with new bolts / nuts?

I fail to see the necessity. I actually prefer the coil in it's current location, the main benefit being the coil wire is well out of harm's way. Though tough to discern in the picture, it's inches away from any other cable (spark / harness). If and when the CAI must be removed, simply pull the boot and harness connections and clip a .02 cent zip-tie. I realize this is an impermanent solution.

Drilling the studs would require removing the entire bracket (clearance), tension pulley, and possibly the radiator shroud (clearance). If I'm going to make that kind of work for myself, I may as well clean and paint it too. When the e-fan system is installed, the coil will be returned to its original location.

As I've said before, this is an ongoing project. I'd rather focus my little time, energy, and money on items of importance-- shocks for example. Hitting so much as an ant causes my truck to pitch like the Andrea Gail...

I read your post. But the only thing you have changed outside of me and before your issued was solved were the camshaft sensor, pcm and non foulers. Were you able to tell which one off these actually made a difference.

The PCM was the problem.

I paid $169.99, pre-flashed (plug-and-play).

I just read through this whole ordeal, I feel exhausted just reading about all the work you've done! I was glad when I got to the end to find that she was finally running good! Now it's time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Nice job!

I recently changed to mid grade octane and for the 5th time re-routed the wiries again to tsb 14-48-98 had it run a little bit better for the passed threes day but fired up all three codes again. As soon as the rain lets up i will probably do a timing check and a compression check. has benn raining for 4 day straight now. I wonder If I put premuim wires and plugs on it it would run better.
