Default Low Idle/low oil pressure..help??

I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 slt automatic with the 5.9l.

When in drive and pulling up to a stop light it will idle really low, like less than 500RPM. While in park it still idles below 500 RPM as well. What should it idle at?

Also, when it idles this low the oil gauge will start to show low pressure, below the normal line and my oil light comes on.

I assume that this is due to the low RPM's. When the truck idles low while in park it has plenty of oil pressure and of course when given gas(in park or in drive) the oil pressure is fine.

I would appreciate it if someone could help me out. I've been told to consider the Throttle position sensor and the Idle air control valve...??
Anyone had issues like this before??

Try cleaning the IAC valve. Remove negative battery cable before doing so.

I just read the thread on cleaning the IAC and will give that a try as soon as I can. Thanks for the tip.

^ I was just gonna say that. Also, what if you hold it at a nice 700rpms? Does your oil pressure show okay then?

At 700 RPM it is just fine and at a normal oil pressure. If I give it even the slightest amount of throttle the pressure goes back up. And of course when I do this it's always 500 RPM and above.
