if its shifting ok and not slipping, leave them alone.
consider adding a drain plug to make it easier next time.
advance has them for pretty cheap.

Not to be contrary, but my personal take on the matter is that if you wait until obvious problems manifest themselves, the bands have been slipping for quite a while and will be glazed already when you perform the deferred maintenance.

+1. Adjusting is a process to assure proper clearance. But make sure you do it EXACTLY as described in service manual....torque wrench and all...

Follow the service guideline prescribed by the manufacture. They list them for a reason. If it's time to do it.. get it done. If not; if it's not broke dont fix it.

I think I'm going to hold off this time, I will change it again in about a month because ive read not to have it flushed if it has never been changed before, that will give me time to build up the confidence and get a good torque wrench, right now we just have one from harbor freight that I don't trust, the truck won't be driven much in the next month anyways, thanks though, I have learned so much from this forum ( for future reference for when I do try to do it , 1 foot pound = 12 inch pounds right?)

Get a torque wrench in inch pounds. Low end of range is least accurate.
