How do I tell if I have a 42RE transmission?
I recently acquired a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD Automatic and it had a small problem that I thought I could fix easily and quickly. The transmission pan is rusted out and leaks quite a bit of transmission fluid. I was just ticketed this morning for it and I now have 10 days to fix it. I went to several auto parts stores and none of them carried what I needed, so I checked eBay and I found this, but the part says it is for 42RE transmissions and I have no clue what that means. How do I find out if this is the correct part for my truck?
You have a 46RE. The link you provided is the wrong part, looks too small.
