Default 46RE Rebuild, Help!

In the middle of a complete overhaul on my uncle's 96 46re. This isn't my first time in a Chrysler automatic and I'm sure it won't be my last

Anyways, the forward direct drum return spring has two slivers cracked off two sides running parallel to each other. This is a picture of a good spring in which I am referencing:

Basically it looks like someone ground down and flattened two sides of the spring to an eccentric shape (think cam washer). The cracked off pieces are approximately two inches in length and the width of the wave ring.

How detrimental might this damage be? There is still quite a bit of contact surface on the spacer ring and the spring isn't deformed in anyway.

If I can't find one locally Friday I'm tempted to go with it because I'm supposed to take a trip Saturday to reinstall it. Bad idea?

Do you have a pic of the not so perfect one? IMO if you have the means to replace it.....Replace it, i know when I piece mill, ( for lack of better terms ) I alway have it in the back of my mind, wondering and hoping that its going work right. Taking longer to do it right, takes less time than doing it twice.

I think he is referring to the piston spring in this photo, could be the wave spring that holds the piston spring in place but not certain, exactly what spring he says is messed up. It's located in the rear clutch assembly.
